Even if taking a harder stance against Europeans seems morally right, you have to decide whether you hope for reconciliation or not.
And if you do, then any individual with any meaningful relationship in their lives who've faced conflict in those relationships knows that the only way to do that is by viewing the other with mercy and by trying to take the moral high ground.
Which is only really possible when either you truly cherish that relationship or you seek to do only that which is pleasing to God.
