Great story here:

The seedless banana we know today was developed in Palaeolithic times by people in SE Asia.

They even distributed it across the oceans right up to Africa in dug out canoes, including Mauritius.

But a posh Victorian got hold of some, so we credit him for it. https://twitter.com/cassand20788602/status/1362667639722696705
This is a classic way by which colonial history sought to erase the achievements of some people.

Giving credit to others coz of their class status and race.

Such an effective propaganda tool, that centuries later people will repeat & reinforce it.

(Including me in the past)
Because of 100s of small, everyday examples like this, I think it is unsurprising many believe in Western superiority.

As our whole society, even boring fruit & veg facts, is geared up to mythologise reality.

It’s understandable & common in other cultures too, but not accurate.
